Fernando Botero is arguably Colombia’s most famous painter and sculptor and its greatest gift to the art world. His creations are on display all over the world and especially in his hometown of Medellín
National treasure Fernando Botero was born in 1932 in Medellín, thus 90 years old in 2022. The photo above is from 2014.
His style is unique, depicting people, objects and animals in a cartoonish style, all of them looking as if they were inflated and about to burst! He makes frequent use of bright colors in his paintings and has produced a prodigious number of large bronze sculptures that grace many plazas throughout the world.
The Museo de Antioquia and its adjoining Plaza de Botero in Medellín contain the largest collection of his paintings and sculptures which he donated to the institution.
